It is a tradition of the National Tournaments to billet visiting players with host families in the community.
Billeting is preferred for several reasons, including:
- Learn about the community
- Ensure good and adequate sleep and meals in a family environment.
- Develop friendships
- Reduce tournament expense
- Reduce supervisory responsibility for managers and coaches
What is involved in being a host family...?
Very simply, the players require regular meals, proper rest, clean clothing, and acceptable activities from August 6th - August 15th (10 nights). The following minimum guidelines are required when players are to be billeted:
- At least two players per billet.
- Billet to provide two meals per day, breakfast, and supper.
- Billet to transport players to and from the playing/practice fields each day.
- A bed or pull out couch must be provided for each player.
- Billets should do players’ laundry (or provide the facilities).
- Curfews must be agreed by billets and managers.
- Players with allergies will not be placed in a home with a smoker/ with pets etc.
- Provide opportunity to use the telephone (at the players expense) or email.
- Tournament Billeting Committee will visit each home to meet with the billet family prior to billet placement.
